Particle measurement & ISO Class 8

Measure cleanliness. Understand the results.

DE · AT · CHCOM.SAR

COM.SAR carries out particle measurements in-house. This adds airborne particle data to your cleaning project, whether for an initial assessment, an agreed before-and-after comparison or a defined cleanliness target.

01

A measurement plan for your objective

Before starting, we clarify whether you need an indicative assessment, a comparison or classification within an agreed scope.

  • Define measurement areas and sampling locations
  • Agree the operational state and particle sizes to be considered
  • Record measurement conditions and results
  • Evaluate the data against the agreed project objective
02

Understanding ISO 14644-1, Class 8

ISO 14644-1 classifies air cleanliness by airborne particle concentration. ISO Class 8 is one of these classes. It does not describe surface cleanliness or electrical safety. A single indicative measurement therefore does not automatically provide a complete classification assessment.

03

Aligning cleaning and verification

If ISO Class 8 is the agreed target, the sampling plan, particle sizes and room state must be appropriate. Classification depends on measured results under the agreed conditions. Cleaning alone neither guarantees a class nor constitutes certification.

04

Comparable data with context

Before-and-after measurements need comparable conditions. Ventilation states, people moving through the space and ongoing work may affect results. We therefore document the agreed conditions alongside the data.

05

What particle counting cannot tell you

Particle counting does not determine the chemical composition or biological characteristics of counted particles. Fire residues, unknown dust and other particular contamination may require additional investigation.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is ISO Class 8 automatically mandatory for every data centre?

Your site's cleanliness targets depend on contractual, operational and technical requirements. ISO Class 8 is described here as a target that can be agreed for a project.

Does COM.SAR carry out the measurements itself?

Yes. We perform particle measurements in-house and agree the scope, objective and documentation with you in advance.
